Job Description

The American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), one of the world’s largest and most prominent natural history museums,invites applications and nominations for an outstanding scholar and strategic academic leader at the Full Curator & Full Professor level to serve as the Dean of Science

The Dean of Science will join AMNH as it seeks to refine and advance its research mission and activities. In addition to carrying out his/her own active research program as a Full Curator, the overarching responsibilities for the Dean of Science will include: strategic planning and the development of short- and long-range research initiatives; assisting in the recruitment, evaluation, and development of research staff; facilitating team science and strong collaborations externally and internally; helping to develop and support the infrastructure necessary for scientific research; ensuring robust growth of research funding; and management supporting the Museum’s research enterprise. 

 

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will be a highly accomplished researcher with a PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline. They will demonstrate a strong record of scholarly activity and extramural funding, and current or previous administrative experience requiring considerable management and administrative skills in a research-intensive environment.
