Any veteran released or discharged from active duty within the previous two years, but due to a military service obligation, was precluded from applying for a recent graduate position during any portion of the two-year eligibility period following completion of applicable degree, and not more than 4 years have transpired since completing the requirements for the degree In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Professional and Scientific Positions in conjunction with the Individual Occupational Requirements for the GS-0401 Series. Basic Requirements: 1. Degree: Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position
2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. To qualify for a GS-07: Completion of 1 full year of graduate level education, or bachelor's degree with Superior academic Achievement as provided in the "General Policies and Instructions" for Qualifications Standards Operating Manual, or 5 academic years of pre-professional study, or 1 year specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-5. To qualify for a GS-09: Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.B or J.D., if related. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05/07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge of the biological sciences (environmental) concepts and principles and standard practices, methods, and techniques to perform, following specific instructions, routine projects or minor phases of a larger and more complex project.
EDUCATION: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts.
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Needed for this position are but not limited to your ability to acquire and maintain: Knowledge of skill in applying the basic concepts, methods, and practices of Biological Science in one or more specialty areas to include industrial waste management, air pollution control, water quality control and solid waste management, routine, well precedented assignments using standard methods and techniques. Knowledge of agency, state, federal, and local environmental regulations sufficient to identify non-compliance and address environmental issues. Skill in communicating factual, pertinent, and procedural information clearly both orally and in writing. Ability to gather and analyze basic facts and draw conclusions. Ability to learn the operation of information Technology (IT) and data systems. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
