The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an advanced trainee professional Biological Scientist (Environmental), providing effective management and directorship of the administrative, financial, and technical aspects of the assigned environmental programs.
Job Requirements
This is an internship; specialized experience does not apply. Degree is required. In order to qualify, you must meet the general requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Degree type biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. EDUCATION:

GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate that you have successfully completed one full year of graduate level education OR you have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement. GS-09: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): You will be expected to have the ability to obtain and maintain... Knowledge of environmental concepts and principles as well as the ability to apply standard environmental professional practices, methods, and techniques to perform relatively difficult but well precedented assignments. Knowledge of applicable agency, state, federal, and local environmental laws, regulations or integration principles and practices to make recommendations concerning assigned restoration, compliance, conservation, pollution prevention projects. Ability to search technical reports, manufacturers' catalogs, and other guidelines and publications to obtain information, prepare reports, and perform moderately difficult assignments. Knowledge of environmental disciplines to be aware of ramifications of their findings and actions inherent in assigned environmental projects, studies, and programs. Skill in communicating factual, pertinent, and procedural information clearly both orally and in writing Ability to make selections and adaptations of environmental applications and alternatives and, after review by the supervisor or higher-grade engineer, carry out the assignment. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. YOUR TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT COVERS: Participant Agreement Orientation program Mentorship throughout the Program Individual Training & Development Plan to assist with career planning, professional development, and training activities At least 40 hours of formal, interactive training each year of the Program Opportunity for career advancement AFTER PROGRAM COMPLETION: Recent Graduates who are selected for conversion must have: Completed all requirements of the program successfully Demonstrated successful job performance consistent with the applicable performance appraisal program Met the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualification standard for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted "It is important to remember that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee that the Department of the Air Force will offer conversion"
