Job Description
This position is part of the Education Facilities, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). As a Environmental Protection Specialist, responsible for management, construction, renovation, demolition and decommissioning work on BIE assets; comply with environmental laws, statutes, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidance and executive orders to protect and provide safe federal facilities, students and employees at Bureau operated and Tribally controlled grant schools and offices.

Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. FOR GS-12 GRADE LEVEL: One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. This experience is related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service that includes: provide expert and technical engineering support to address and remediate a wide range of complex environmental projects; assess, remediate and monitor environmental contaminants; experience applying principles, concepts, and practices relating to environmental protection programs; ensure compliance with the laws and regulations related to environmental protection activities; implement environmental control programs and policies concerned with environmental protection, enhancement, and management of facilities and grounds; write environmental reports; develop and assist in negotiating service contracts and agreements; make oral presentations related to an environmental program; make field site visits to provide technical guidance and assistance to facility managers and management. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
